A new dress for Easter and a meaningful chocolate treat

My daughter will be wearing a new dress this Easter (well, new to her). It’s an old tradition to dress in new  clothes on Easter morning to represent the new life we have in Jesus and one which I think could make sense to a little girl. Well, you wouldn’t go to see the Queen dressed in anything except your cleanest clothes, would you? So we need to be washed clean from all our sin to stand before a Holy God.

I think by the end of Easter Day though I may be on the hunt for stain remover as we plan on creating this chocolate treat to enjoy after lunch on Easter Day. It’s a reicpe for Rocky Road and, as you add each ingredient, you tell the story of Holy Week, using each ingredient as a symbol for part of the story. Genius. It’s from a UK blog so you’ll be able to find the ingredients (woohoo!) and, to be honest, you should check out Sun Hats and Wellies anyway because it’s an excellent blog for kid crafts and activities in general. There are lovely ideas and activities for other Christian festivals too.

Have a blessed Holy Week and Resurrection Sunday, folks. And may your children understand just a little more about Easter this year and come a little closer to knowing Jesus as their Saviour and friend.

  1. […] You can use them in different ways depending on your kids but what we did last year was to start by getting them out a few times and opening first one, then two the next day, then three, always building up the learning. By day 5, Pigwig got impatient with that (where’d she get those genes? Erhem!) so we took them along on Easter day to my parents’ house. It was raining so no garden egg hunt but I hid them around the living room and, once assembled, we opened them one by one to tell the story together, Mummy filling in the bits the children didn’t yet know. And yes, of course, I gave them chocolate eggs to eat as a prize for finding the plastic eggs (and this shockingly addictive stuff!)! […]
